FAQ
Is it necessary to specify surnames during registration?
When registering, you do not need to specify surnames. The system looks for a match of your family relationships by kinship and name. This is enough. Surnames, place of residence, etc. is additional information and you will be able to fill it in later by editing your relative's profile.
What names should I use during registration?
We recommend entering your relatives’ names exactly as they appear in their passports. If you don’t know this information or have no way of finding out, you should use the name by which the relative is known to most of your family circle.
Is there a limit to the size of the family tree?
There are no limits to the size of the tree. The project is designed to unite all people into one large tree, so the program allows building a tree that can include several billion individuals.
Where should I add a relative who is connected to two different branches of the family? For example, if your relative married a distant cousin, they may appear as a son in one branch and a husband in another.
In this case, you need to enter this relative twice in different branches, along with a few additional relatives. The program will automatically detect matches and suggest merging duplicate relatives.
How can I delete a relative from the graph?
To delete a relative, select them with the cursor, then open the menu (black circle with stripes) and choose DELETE PERSON. Please note that you can only delete the last relative in a chain. If new relatives were added through this person, you must first delete those relatives before removing the original one.
How does the search work, and why are only first names required, not last names?
Our research has shown that every person has a unique set of relatives’ names within their circle. The names of your father, mother, children, siblings, grandparents, etc., form a unique combination that identifies you, much like a fingerprint.
How do I enter relatives if I am remarried and have children from both marriages?
The program does not separate spouses into first or second marriages. You should list both wives. On the graph, you will have two wives and all the children (including half-siblings). This approach was chosen because your distant relatives may not know the name of your first or current wife, nor which children belong to which marriage. Therefore, to ensure your relatives can find you, we do not divide spouses into former and current.
